Near Sambuca di Sicilia is the important archaeological site of Mount Adranone. Excavation work began in 1968 when a Greek town founded by Selinus settlers, in the second half of the 6th Century BC was discovered. The necropolis has hypogeum room tombs and chest tombs with walls of small stone blocks. Another complex includes proto-historic huts, 6th-5th Century BC houses, a sacred area and a 4th Century BC farm. The acropolis has a Punic temple, and beneath this there is a monumental complex with a Punic sanctuary.
