The Arch of Drusus was erected in the year 23 AD at the request of the Spoleto senate. It is one of the many arches dotted around the town of Spoleto and, according to the inscription, was built in honour of the adopted son of Emperor Tiberius. The arch was once a ceremonial entrance that marked the point where the cardo maximus entered the city’s Forum and which is now the Piazza del Mercato.
