Antiquarium di Via Donota are the remains of a Roman settlement dating back to the 1st Century BC and was found by some general maintenance a few years ago. Trieste was founded by the Romans and was formerly called Tergeste and there are still probably many undiscovered remains from this period. It became a burial ground some time during second half of the 2nd Century and the end of the 5th Century. There is a display area inside the Torre di Donota of the relics found during excavations behind the Roman theatre.
