Just to the east of the Tre-Fontane sports facilities lies an ancient area of eucalyptus scented green, dotted with three churches. These were to celebrate where St Paul’s head was said to have bounced after his execution at the hands of the Romans in 67. This is a Trappist monastery of Tre Fontane which has been around since the 5th Century. San Paolo delle Tre Fontane was built where it said was the very spot that St Paul lost his life.
