The building which houses the Zoological Station and Aquarium was designed by Oscar Capocci. Located within the Villa Comunale, it has a valuable aquarium and a scientific laboratory of international standard which focuses on the study of marine flora and fauna. The aquarium, which is the oldest in Europe, specialises in the animal and vegetable marine species found in the Bay of Naples. Visitors can view the numerous aquatic tanks which contain torpedo fish, seahorses, sponges, shellfish, crustaceans and many other varieties of fish.
