The wall remains and the gardens of the Arena are one of the few original buildings of the ancient town of Padova or Patavium that still stand where they were erected. It is believed they date back to the Augustan period and to the richest period of the town. The size of the Paduan amphitheatre is similar in size to the Arena in Verona, but because of damage by nature and man the town took ownership in 1090 and used it as a quarry.
