This Hypogeum – a building below ground level – is of the late 2nd Century BC and forms part of the huge Palazzone Etruscan necropolis. Inside, visitors can see cinerary urns in travertine, terracotta, marble and sandstone. Worthy of mention is the burial chamber of Arunte and Lars Volumnio, with a plan very like that of the structure of a Roman-Italic house. The Palazzone necropolis has around 200 tombs from the Hellenistic period, and guided and educational tours are available.
