Map

Just about every building in Orvieto has its own cellar, or cave. These artificial underground tunnels form an intriguing labyrinth of wells, galleries, cisterns, and cellars. The caves underneath the cliff on which the city stands are good examples and have been used over the centuries as stores for oil, grain, and wine. Many of these tunnels have been opened to visitors and guided tours through this amazing underground system are available by booking at the tourist office, opposite the Duomo.
