The small town of Mascali sits at the foot of Mount Etna and on the coast which overlooks on the Ionian Sea. As well as the beautiful Cathedral Church, there are ruins of an old tower which once helped defend the surrounding territory. Built to a square plan of lavic stone, it is mainly Gothic in style. The upper part was severely damaged by an earthquake. The fortress walls have a narrow opening to protect soldiers against enemies and in the upper part is a window. The tower is surrounded by lemon gardens.
