In the 4th Century AD the Emperor Maximian enlarged two parts of the 1st Century BC Roman walls to encircle two new areas of the city. The most complete section to the walls on the west side can be seen in the garden of the Archaeological Museum. It is here you can see the Ansperto tower named after the 9th Century Bishop Ansperto. It has 24 sides and is still as high as it was originally - about 17 metres. It is one of the few Roman monuments that remains intact to the present day.
