The Tempietto, or Edicola, built in 1354, is perhaps the most curious looking building in Norcia and stands on Via Umberto I. This square limestone building was designed by local stonemason Vannes Tutie although nobody is quite sure what its purpose was, possibly a votive chapel against the plague. It stands 6 metres high and contains two entrance archways that are decorated with unusual geometric and anthropomorphic reliefs. The base contains the remains of a fresco of the Madonna.
