The Teatro Politeama was built in 1870, and is one of the oldest and most influential theatres in Naples. Located in the heart of the city behind the colonnade on Piazza del Plebiscito and close to the royal Bourbon palace, it is known as the venue for the prose, review, and musical comedy season. It was reorganized in the 1960s and has a capacity of 997 seats in stalls, circle and dress circle. The programme regularly includes great names of the national and international theatre and the billing caters for everything from the classics to modern and avant-garde.
