A military association in the late 18th Century commissioned the Teatro Mercadante, which was originally called the Teatro del Fondo. It was only later that it was dedicated to the musician Mercadante, who was trained in Naples. The theatre was restored sometime in 1938 and completely renovated in the 1950s. The theatre had been closed for some 30 years, but for the last couple of years it has been the venue with an impressive programme. The Festival della Comunicazione Breve ‘Corto Circuito’, a festival of short audio-visual works is held here every year.
