The Storchi Theatre was opened in the latter half of the 19th Century. It was designed as a horseshoe plan auditorium, accessible from the atrium with cast iron columns and a gallery surrounded by iron railings and wooden seats. In an inspection done just before opening, cracks were found in the eastern and western facades and by 1893 the vault started to sag. In 1895 Luigi Sfondrini, slightly re-styled the curvature of the auditorium, built the second gallery, and rebuilt the roof.
