The church of St. Benedetto was founded in 1195 near an ancient monastery. Here the daughters of the wealthiest families of Padova were educated, amongst whom was Caterina Cornaro who the later became Queen of Cyprus. Unfortunately it was severely damaged during WWII and had to be rebuilt in 1952. Inside it remains in a Romanic-Gothic style with un-plastered walls, pillars and pilasters. There is a number of works of art on the walls as you enter, such as the 14th and 15th Century frescoes, a canvas by Damini and two masterpieces by Alessandro Varotari from the 17th Century.
