The Santa Chiara Cathedral Complex is Naples’ most famous monument. It was commissioned by Robert of Anjou and his wife Sancia and erected in 1310 by Gagliardo Primario. Attached to the Clarissan monastery, it became a Pantheon for the Neapolitan monarchs. The beautiful 18th Century interior houses the royal tombs of Robert of Anjou, Maria di Durazzo (Durres), Carlo di Calabria, Maria de Valois, Clemenza and Agnese di Durazzo, Onofrio and Antonio Penna. The convent is also home to the Museo dell’Opera di Santa Chiara.
