Along Via Cavour and past the Porta San Pietro – built in the 14th–15th centuries with help from Agostino di Duccio – you will find one of the most ancient buildings in Perugia. This Benedictine church was founded in the 10th Century and it’s thought that with its slightly raised site, there were likely underground passages here used for burials by the Etruscans and Romans. San Pietro is markedly original in its magnificent decoration, which looks more Venetian than local.
