The church of San Paolo a Ripa d’Arno that stands here today is in fact an accurate reconstruction. The original church was damaged by bombings in WWII. It was founded in 805 and was once known as the Old Duomo though modifications took place in the year 1000. The building has a stunning façade with blind arches and loggias. Inside it’s divided into two aisles and contains frescoes which are thought to be the work of Simone Martini and Cimabue. The church also has a Roman sarcophagus.
