The church of San Giovanni di Sinis is a 5th Century building that rivals Cagliari’s San Saturnino Church for being the oldest in the whole of Sardinia. It can be located on the roadside at the base of the limb of land on which Tharros sits, which is some 4km south of San Salvatore. This Paleo-Christian church has something of an oriental or Byzantine look to it and is very pleasing to the eye. Perhaps the greatest surprise is that it still stands as this coast was subjected to many pirate raids.
