The church of San Giovanni Battista is sited on the western side of the Piazza Matteotti facing the Via Emilia and is dedicated to San Michele. It was restored around the 16th Century and renovated to its current appearance in 1723 based on a design of Gerolamo Frigemelica Roberti. The church took its name from Confraternita di San Giovanni della Buona Morte which has been officiating since 1774. In the interior is a fascinating terracotta group depicting Deposition from the Cross, which was commissioned by Guido Mazzoni in 1476 for the oratorio of the Confraternita della Buona Morte.
