The magnificent church of San Carlo al Corso was designed and built by Carlo Amati between 1839 and 1847. It looks out over the Piazza San Babila on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele. By setting back the façade of the earlier church on this site (the Santa Maria dei Servi), Amati created an open front to the church and the high Corinthian portico that frames the façade and connects it to the Corso. It’s a round church with a high dome of 36 metres, erected between 1843 and 1847 by the architect Felice Pizzagalli.
