The church of S. Maria Incoronata is unusual in that it is a double building that is linked to a love story between Francesco Sforza and Bianca Maria Visconti. This is home to an Augustinian order; the complex was constructed from an unusual series of events. Dedicated to St. Nicholas of Tolentino, the first chapel was modernised in 1451 in a Gothic style from the directions of Francesco Sforza. The design has been attributed to architect Guiniforte Solari, which is his hallmark using the Lombard style. The convent is the most important centre of Augustinian culture in Milan.
