S. Bernardino alle Ossa is a church of medieval origin, which has been rebuilt many times. It was finally completely finished in the 18th Century to resemble a civil villa and was mounted by an octagonal lantern. A chapel war memorial is sited in an annex built to a square plan thought to contain thousands of human remains. These are said to be the victims of the plague of 1630 or to Milanese massacred by plundering Goths. However, the most likely reason is that they are bodies of the deceased from the adjoining hospital.
