The church of S. Angelo (S. Maria degli Angeli) was erected in 1552 and was commissioned by the order of Minor Franciscans to replace an earlier 15th Century building on the same site. This ancient convent complex is of enormous proportions and is the home of primary importance for the Franciscan order. It was built at the time of the abolitions and again completely rebuilt between 1940 and 1945 the work of the architect Giovanni Muzio. Inside there are many pictorial decorations in the lateral naves.
