Pier Maria Rossi had Castle Rossi built in the middle of the 15th Century - around 100 years after his family secured the San Secondo domain. The castle was built as a residence and a fortified structure. Nearly 100 years after the construction of the castle’s foundations it was altered by Duke Ottavio Farnese. He demolished the defensive ramparts, blocked the moats and closed off all of the rooms. Some of these rooms were frescoed by painters such as Bertoja, Campi, Baglione and Anselmi, the best artists of the time.
