Pusterla di Sant’Ambrogio was built in 1939 by the architect Gino Chierici, in an imitation of a defensive gate in the ancient walls, dating to 1171. The original materials were re-used in the two towers, each of different heights. The tabernacle with the Saints Ambrogio, Gervasio and Protasio were sculpted by craftsmen from Campione and came from the hospital of Sant’Ambrogio, which was founded by Galeazzo II Visconti during the mid 15th Century. The building is now home to the ’Museo della Pusterla’ that has a permanent display of criminology and antique weapons.
