Posillipo is a beautiful scenic road that Joachim Murat had built in 1812-13. The start of it is close to the sea and it rises towards the hill which separates the Bay of Naples from the Bay of Pozzuoli. At one time there were great parks in the area which surrounded the fine houses here - the most important residence being Villa Donn’Anna. It was built by the architect Cosimo Fanzago in 1642 for Donna Anna Carafa, the wife of the then viceroy. From the top of the hill there are magnificent views across Naples.
