Start from old Cassaro and walk towards the sea to find the Porta Nuova, which was built in the late 16th Century in the style of Roman triumphal arches. The two sides of the gate are different: the front facing the city appears as a real classical triumphal arch, with pilaster strips and composite capitals, surmounted by a trabeation, on which the four allegorical figures are depicted: Peace, Justice, Truth and Plenty. The side facing Monreale features four caryatids of Moors, depicting the African victories of Charles V.
