The Porta Capuana, built in 1484, is situated next to the Capuan Castle. Designed by Giuliano da Maiano, this impressive Renaissance triumphal arch stands between the two great Aragon towers, known as Honour and Virtue. The Porta Capuana replaced the former gate when the city walls were enlarged. The outside was dressed with white marble and the marble group depicting the ‘Coronation of Ferdinando I’ in the gate arch was replaced with the coat of arms of the emperor.
