The Ponte di Mezzo is a renovation of the most ancient bridge in the city of Pisa, which goes back to the Roman era. A quite extraordinary event takes part in mid summer here every year. Each year, on the last Sunday of June the ‘Game of the Bridge’ is held. This involves members of rival districts, Tramontana and Mezzogiorno, trying to gain possession of the bridge by pushing a cart from opposite ends into the middle until one team withdraws and concedes victory to the other.
