The ancient pile dwellings near Molina di Ledro on Lake Ledro were re-discovered in 1929 when the level of the lake dropped considerably during construction of the hydroelectric power plant. An entire village made up of these dwellings stands on the lake shoreline. The Bronze Age site was built around 3,700 years ago (1709 BC) upon nearly 10,000 wooden poles. From finds discovered in the area it appears the original pile-dwellers farmed, wove fabrics and made pottery. An exhibit pile-dwelling has been reconstructed.
