Parco di Villa Demidoff
Via Fiorentina, 276 Pratolino, Florence 50036 - Italy

Map
In the 16th Century the Grand Duke Francesco I de ’Medici, bought land in Pratolino in order to create a magnificent park dedicated to Bianca Cappello. The work was entrusted to Bernardo Buontalenti. As well as a palace and other buildings, the park had many artificial caves, statues, fountains and water features, which impressed the likes of Montaigne, who visited in 1580. One of the most impressive statues is the Colossus dell’Appennino, a mythological figure placed to protect the park, by Mannerist sculptor Giambologna. The park now belongs to the Province of Florence and is a venue for exhibitions.
