In the basement of the cathedral you will find the Paleochristian remains. Here the cathedral is home to various mosaics, the remains of columns, terracotta urns, and carved stonework. There are also the bones of oxen and horses which are thought by some to be the remains of antique Pagan offerings. Some Byzantine capitals with inscriptions dedicated to the Goddess of Fortune are stored in the Eremitani Civic Museum, while other religious objects like crosses are in the Diocesan Museum.
