The Palazzo Tarsia is one of the largest, and thought to be the most extravagantly built, palaces in Naples. Its sheer complexity meant it was never finished, it being so large that it lent its name to an entire district. It was built by the architect Domenico Antonio Vaccaro in the early 18th Century for the Spinelli family. Much building work took place in the 19th Century and the dimensions of the great courtyard are the same as those of the Piazza Tarsia itself.
