The Palazzo Sessa was constructed on grounds belonging to Santa Maria a Cappella Vecchia. Before the 18th century, when the Via Morelli was built, there were some beautiful views across the city from the Palazzo. You need to cross an ancient churchyard and through a portal from the early 16th Century to reach the palace. The Lateran Canons, whose home it was, sold off the vast estate to the Marquis Giuseppe Sessa in 1741. The old church is now a gym with none of its former façade visible.
