The Palazzo dello Spagnolo was constructed in 1738 for Marquis Nicola Moscati. It was first named dello Spagnolo at the start of the 19th Century when it became the home of Tommaso Atienza who was a nobleman from Madrid. Ferdinando Sanfelice almost certainly designed the palace, even though his name does not appear on any documents. When the Bourbons arrived in 1734, Sanfelice was kept from any further building work because of the links he had with the previous Austrian government. However the stairs and many other aspects reflect Sanfelice’s style very closely.
