The Palazzo dell’Ambrosiana houses the Gallery and Library, which are two very important institutions in Milan. The gallery was founded by Federico Borromeo as a centre for the counter reform culture and has gradually gathered together many collections of art and books over the years. Right from the start facing the Piazza S. Sepolcro the institution expanded to fill the whole block. The immense library collection houses the famous Codice Atlantico written by Leonardo da Vinci.
