The Palazzo del Popolo is a grand, though simple, structure was first recorded in the 13th Century. It is thought to have been commissioned by Neri della Greca and situated on the spot of a Papal Palace built in the reign of Pope Hadrian IV. It is a typical, and important, example of Orvieto civic architecture with elements much copied by later buildings in the town. It was constructed of local tufa stone and the ground floor is supported by flamboyant arches. There is an external stairway, a loggia and crenellations.
