Built between 1560 and 1564, the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti was commissioned by Angelo Maria Medici, who was to become Pope Pio IV. The College of Giureconsulti was the establishment which educated some of the most important men in the Milanese state. Here, an earlier statue of Philip II was replaced by a statue of Bruto, a symbol of liberty. This statue was destroyed by the Austrians around 1799 and in its place now is a statue of Sant’Ambrogio.
