The Overseas Exhibition building was built between 1937 and 1940. It was nearly completely rebuilt after the bombing of the Second World War, as a venue for triennial exhibitions. Marcello Canino designed the Mostra d’Oltremare complex based on an orthogonal grid and two principal axes. Inside is the elegant and beautiful monumental Fontana dell’Esedra, created by Carlo Cocchia e Luigi Piccinato and a modern reference to Vanvitelli’s Caserta Royal Palace. Along the entrance avenue is the Palace of Congresses, by the Barillà group, which is also monumental and scenic and the Tower of the Nations, created by Venturino Ventura.
