Rodolfo Tanzi founded the Ospedale Vecchio in 1201. The façade is decorated with a series of porticoes and marble columns and fronts onto the Via d’Azeglio. It was enlarged and partially rebuilt in the 15th Century, with its huge architectural complex developed and became part of the Sforza family’s hospital which was built on a cross plan. It has four large courtyards, which were added later by Giovanni Antonio da Erba. It was the 16th Century artist Antonio Ferrari d’Agrate who did the decoration on the façade and the cloisters.
