The Necropoli del Crocifisso del Tufo dates from between the 4th and the 6th Century BC. These ancient tombs are laid out side by side although their contents – the funerary urns they contained along with other relics once inside the tomb cases – are now mostly held in museums. Visitors here can note the Etruscan script on many of the stones and how each tomb matches its neighbour in size and style – an unusual feature in such necropoli.
