The Museo Poldi Pezzoli was inaugurated in 1881 by Gian Giacomo Poldi Pezzoli. This unusual museum houses many important paintings as well as archaeological relics, weapons, carpets, porcelain, glass ware, watches, textiles, and jewellery. There are frescoes by Carlo Innocenzo Carloni and a wonderful fabric display which includes an embroidered cope designed by Sandro Botticelli. The works by Hayez, Foppa, Boltraffio, Solario, Cranach, Mantegna, G. Bellini, Piero Della Francesca, F. Guardi, Magnasco, Tiepolo, Palma il Vecchio, Frà Galgario, Tura, Cima da Conegliano, Lotto and Pollaiolo are all of note.
