The Museo Cinese ed Etnografico was created for Guido Maria Conforti, the bishop of Parma. He conceived an ambitious project for missionaries enabling them to place testimonies of cultures they encountered from far off lands and to preserve them for the education of future missionaries. There is a wide collection of items from China, Oceania, Africa, Pakistan, Japan and Latin America. You will find on display vases, mirrors, paintings and statues dating from the 11th Century B.C. up to the 13th Century B.C. Amongst the paintings are portraits and works by the Huang Ch’uan who lived before the year 1000.
