The Mirasole complex was founded by the Umiliati Order in the early 13th Century. It is an interesting example of a religious settlement based on agricultural activities. Since 1797 it has belonged to the ’Ospedale di Milano’ and restoration in 1998 turned it into a cultural centre. The abbey still has its original 14th Century characteristics with the large agricultural courtyard. A single-nave church, dedicated to Maria Assunta, sits in one corner of the complex and has a panelled ceiling and a beautiful 13th Century belfry. At the side are some of Milan’s best preserved 15th Century cloisters with loggia.
