The little village of Melpignano, not far from Lecce, is part of the old Greek area of Salento. Among its attractions is a very beautiful porch which belongs to the Merchants’ Loggia and which encloses one side the elegant San Giorgio square. A little way out of the village you can find the Palazzo Marchesale. This retains remnants of the fortifications dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries and is set in a magnificent garden.
