The small town of Macomer is one of Sardinia’s main transport routes. During the Roman era the town was known as Macopissa and was a major military base. Note the old parish church of S. Pantaleone which has three Roman mile-stones in front of it, which belonged to the Roman highroad that ran from Carales to Turris Libisonis. Macomer was a site for the Sard revolt against the Aragoneses in 1478, probably the last serious revolt of its time but the place is now best known as a centre for livestock, farming and the production of wool.
