The Loggia degli Osii is a monumental building sited on the southern side of the Piazza dei Mercanti. This is the building whose balcony or ’parlera’ was used by the government of the day to read out the edicts and sentences that were issued by the municipal government – an event always well attended by the populace. Loggia degli Osii dates from the early 14th Century and was commissioned by Matteo Visconti and underwent renovation in the early 20th Century.
