The Liviano palace was built in 1939 by the architect Giò Ponti and is the home of the Faculty of Literary Studies, being a part of the antique palace of the Carraresi. There is a beautiful portrait of Francesco Petrarca set in among 16th Century frescoes. Art critics say that the portrait is the most realistic of the poet that has been seen and is probably the work of Jacopo Avanzo and dates to the 14th Century.
