The Il Monte environment enhances the nature reserve of the Margherita di Savoia Saltworks. Dating back to the 2nd Century the saltworks is a fascinating place, however the current works owes much to the architect Vanvitelli. Il Monte is important from a botanical point of view and because it is a staging post as well as a wintering and nesting site for many birds such as the little Egrets, Purple Herons and Western March Harriers. If you are a keen birdwatcher then this is a place you must visit.
